Luncheonette Library

Softly, as they say, the door opened. Okay not the door, the shop. Softly the shop opened. The problem is I somehow feel duly bent to read all the books before listing them.

Or stare at the photos, reading stories right into them. I had no idea, when I was 10, that all the postcards and pictures I kept in that Louis Sherry candy box were called ephemera. To me they were lives lived that I had to know about. I was always reporting on make believe.

Hot Dog Champion shirt featured on Etsy Vintage Tumblr
Today's etsy vintage tumblr was like the 1940s meets the 1970s meets 2011 meets a whole herd of terrific vintage with a coltish western theme. Did I know, to be honest, that there was a vintage tumblr run by Etsy? Not so much. Like I didn't know until yesterday that you can make a kick-ass ice cream soda using mint chocolate chip ice cream and espresso ice cream, so long as you add a bunch of chocolate syrup.

The sweetheart who runs the tumblr thing got in touch with me, and of course I got all grinning palomino about it. The shirt is one of a small band of plaid button-ups and pearl snaps at luncheonette vintage. Lately I've really been into Western shirts. Mostly hanging them up on a 1940s hanger and taking their pictures.

And I'd say button down shirt, but Mom always said that button down referred not to the entire shirt, but merely the collar. Pearl snap I am sure you get, I mean git, the idea. I'm still not sure if she was right. But she would say, Of course I am. Translation: noone knows how to speak anymore.

Some of the other shirts in the barn, I mean shop:
Corn Dog shirt
Breakfast cook shirt

Suddenly a lot of eggs

{me}longings blog was a fave of mine long before I knew anything about it. Organic and eco and patina and light and a kind of unmitigated quiet joy radiates from it. Chanee, the {me} in it, has an eye.

This isn't mutual logrolling time but somehow the luncheonette and {me}longings got together and made good. But she took it farther and sent me all these questions to answer about the luncheonette. So I did. I wasn't sure what she'd use from all the answering: a meadow of answers, it looked like to me, wild and unkempt but honest. She used them all. She also grabbed a whole buffet of items from the shop and put them together in surprising, and gorgeous ways and did that color-matching genius thing too. And she used some of my favorites, though I never told her they were favorites. More good made. Much good. See for yourself.

A thousand pieces of pie to you for that, C.
