Research Dept: 1960s Tweedsbury by The Country House cardigan sweater

The label has that distinctive Country Squire meets Yankee homespun look I've seen in a lot of early 60s clothing labels.

Research turned up an advertisement in a 1965 newspaper, the October 31 issue of the News and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina. The ad is for Dawn's Village Shop on Rivers Ave.  How you'll love the truly Traditional Styling ...

The drawing, clearly hand done, each outfit neatly framed in a sweet wreath. Further research uncovered that Tweedsbury was trademarked in North Carolina. Wonder how the sweater wound up all the way up here in the Catskills, half a century later?

Presented to Aaron R. Wheeler by the Scholars of the School of the 1st R.D. Church, Nyack, 1863.

There are 54 cartes de visite and photographs, along with 4 prints of Washington, General Grant and others, and 24 tintypes, some hand tinted. On the back inside cover is the Freemason's Chart.

The album measures 9" x 6" x 2.5" and has red and white printed endpapers, embossed leather covers, the brass remains of a double strap latch, and gold edged album pages.

A sweet dozen of the dozens of scarves. The woman who had these had doubles and triples. It was explained that she was very particular about her appearance. What would she have thought about the way they were all strewn over her wicker lounger, looking like castaways, like an aviatrix had changed about 100 times while piloting a glassless plan, and just casually unlooped, unknotted, and tossed that frisson of silk into the air.
